In the present age, almost everyone is hoping for a change in the system in which a school functions. Education should be such that it meets everyone’s needs. Students, these days, are especially fed up with the education they are receiving. Education consists of three things, where the first is, to teach to observe and know the basic facts that would enable the students in forming judgements; secondly, to train children to think fruitfully and soundly; thirdly, to teach children to use their knowledge and their thought effectively for their own, as well as the common good.
When students feel good about where they are, they tend to be more relaxed, creative and open to learning new things. Comfortable desks and appealing classrooms would help improve learning, while a student lounge, large auditorium and cafeteria would aid towards an ideal school. Curriculum and equipment are the major factors that should be considered when creating an ideal school. Unfortunately, most schools today lack up-to- date equipment supplies. In school, as in life in general, stress and stress management play important roles. Reduction of stress could be achieved by organizing assignments and tests more frequently. Rallies, dances, extra-curricular activities, bring people to work towards common goals. This school spirit and unity gives off a positive atmosphere conducive to learning.
Since most students learn best ‘by doing’, an ideal school system would give students a chance to actually do, see, visit and hear their lessons. Notes and oral explanations would further help. Class size and set-up would take a drastic step towards this new system. No longer would there be a class size of 30 students. Classes would be streamed according to learning styles and speed of comprehension. It would give students a more equalized chance for success and challenge. Specialized teachers would also be there for students to call upon for extra one-to-one help. This type of set-up would allow students the freedom to choose how they want to learn.
One of the most influential aspects related to one’s learning is the teacher. Students like teachers who are fun and who teach them differently. In an ideal school, this occurrence would be less of a rarity and more of a norm.
